S2000 CR Test Drive
I really dig the idea of the CR, I just wish it came a few years ago. The 2008 S2000 is really showing its age at this point, and I don't just mean looks. It's cool that Honda has decided to do some evolutionary changes to the S, but it's too little, too late IMO.
Hopefully, 2009 will bring a quantum leap in the next gen S3k?

That said, I still would like to own a CR just for the limited edition factor.

Won't find me in line to buy one... Steve when are we going to Mid-Ohio? Wanna put some money on this showdown?

and not the mention that thing can actually murder the crap out of road courses right off the delivery truck!
Will it be faster around a road coarse stock for stock, yes.

Is this right?
Engine 2.0L/237-hp/162-lb-ft DOHC 16-valve I-4
In the article, it said 2.2L. Which is it?
Anyways, I am happy to see evolution of the s2000 into the CR. I recognize it's purpose as a factory car that comes ready for the track with all the weight savings done from the factory. Obviously, we can perform similar weight savings on our S2000s too, but for what the CR is, it's stripped weight that is clean looking and not like a stripped car. I think the CR will deliver as promised for those that will appreciate it for it's track handling possibilities, more refined with the rear strut in place of the missing softtop to increase lateral chassis stiffness and sharper steering response, and lighter!
Any of the dealerships in town have these yet? I need to check one out in person. Saw them at Mid Ohio, but no one was allowed close.

BTW, just noticed it's listed at 2800lbs curb weight. Didn't MY00s weigh 2,809lbs from the factory? You can take the radio, A/C, tool kit, and put an OEM hard top on a MY00 and it would be in the low 27xxs. Bigger wheels and stickier tires aren't difficult to replicate either. I know it has suspension changes, and more frame bracing, but the frame bracing is pretty much the only thing on the car that can't be easily replicated on any other S2k out there. Worth it for the exclusiveness, not worth it if you actually want a club racer. At Marysville Honda right now you can get a MY06 for $29k. $4,000 for nice wheels and tires, $1,600 for KW Variant 3's, $1,000 for INGs +1 front bumper, $1,000 for JDM exhaust. With the leftover money, buy stainless brake lines, good brake pads, and a VAFC. For $38,000 you could have an 06 that would beat the CR around a track and look a hell of a lot cooler. Like Gary said, too little too late.
