License Blur
The subject of blurring out license plate numbers came up in the August Dinner Meet thread.
I personally don't blur people's plates. I don't want to spend my time on a photo editing program, 99% of my photos come straight out of the camera, the only manipulation/enhancing I do is cropping.
Came across a couple of links concerning this issue:
Don't forget to read the comment section also.
Blur or Not to Blur
"The original reason to blur a license plate is because of car forums. If you were posting up your 1993 Civic HX with a full Integra Type R swap, your 1995 Eclipse with all kinds of trick upgrades based around a turbocharger that alone cost $1,400, or any other tricked-out car full of expensive upgrades, you usually included lots of photos and parts lists that read like a Christmas bonus to any skeevy individuals. Honda-tech especially became a very common place for thieves to come and scope build threads or show-off threads, learn where the guys lived that had $30,000+ in their $8,000 cars, and come jack them. Unlike factory parts that have the VIN stamped everywhere, aftermarket parts are usually near-impossible to track back down. Plus, as the thief you could just lurk on the theft thread, and see if the hopeful ex-owner posted any details of the car. If he said something like, "Luckily for me, I wrote down the serial number of my GT2571R turbo, so watch out for it!" then you can bet the thief would either file the number off, send it far far away, or drop it at the botttom of a lake after gutting it.
Blurring out the license plate of a random car that passes you on the street is not as necessary. 9/11/12 9:43pm"
And this should come as no surprise: LPR

Good find and interesting read. Comfirms my previous thoughts and posts on FB yesterday.
If i am editing my wifes pictures she took, i take the 30 seconds and blur out every license plate in the picture. A lot of theives "window shop" via car forums, craigslist etc.. The less info i easily give them, the better. Yes, the plate is publicly displayed while im driving. Thas fine and thats the risk we take while driving. Im not going to hand them my information and a cookie over the internet while they fondle themselves to the next victims engine bay pics.
