Default Clutch replacement

I had a catastrophic failure leaving work last week, the car would start in gear only to die as it tried to move forward (with clutch pedal depressed)... it would start in neutral find, but could not shift into gear (car started to creep forward as shifter was pushed towards the gear, but would not engage).... towed it home and it appears the slave cylinder is moving fine so something is obviously wrong with the pressure plate, as it is not dis-engaging or the throwout bearing is acting up.

I have a friend who can assist me in replacing the clutch, however it looks like a total pain in the a$$, I can't even locate the top two of the bolts to drop everything out, let alone taking off the brace, exhaust etc that's probably also needed....

which brings me to my question: Does anyone know of any reasonably priced places to get the clutch replaced? If there's nothing under $700 installed I'm just going to do it in my garage.

cliff notes: Where is a cheap place to replace the clutch?

Sorry to hear that Brian, I think $600-800 is about norm even back in 03 when I was looking to get my clutch/fly wheel/PP replaced. While you have the tranny down, you should consider just upgrading the whole thing while you're at it.

I got everything out last night and tonight. I will warn you right now, it takes some time. The starter is a huge pain and is much easier with one person under the car feeling and guiding the socket with the other under the hood ready to turn. You'll need 24" of extensions and a swivel socket for many of the bolts... Removing the exhaust manifold is a must... You also need to lower the entire motor on the cradle it sits in (6 bolts) in order to reach a couple of the bolts holding the transmission on. Good luck, it's definitely a 2 person job if you're doing it in a garage at home with jack stands!

FYI

http://www.ultrarev.com/product.php?productid=68919

Click add to cart.... $350 for the OEM exedy clutch kit. I actually got one on ebay for a few bucks cheaper shipped (called them first to ensure it was in stock)...

Hope I save someone some money!

I have air tools, but haven't found a need for them, don't think it would speed anything up. yes, the cold concrete sucks.

clutch arrived, flywheel is being surfaced... hopefully mine goes back together as effortlessly as yours.

I'll be sure to post pictures of my pressure plate... a piece of it actually broke, strangest thing, defect perhaps? I'll blame Beaverton Honda, they were the last ones in there, and they pretty much always suck balls @ everything they do.

Not sure what kind of S2000 experience they have, but Munson's in Vancouver is an independent Honda only shop that is honest and reasonable.

Well at least you are not in the same boat Im in. The previous owner installed a crazy ORC clutch. I am not looking forward to finding or paying for a replacement. Its still going strong though.
