Ever wonder why they are hard to find? If they worked then they would still be available.

In the "old days" the police used fixed frequencies. Then in the 90's they went to a new system to thwart police scanners. The frequencies rotate every few minutes. These rotating frequencies are shared by various public service agencies, so everyone's frequencies rotate.

It could be that the BCT 10 and 12 were made obsolete by this...

The technology from the new handheld police scanners must be way more advanced than the old BearTrackers, right? I like the design of the old units better, but it seems that the newer scanners would be more effective.

Edit - VintageMac posted quicker than I could!

Ha ha, I got pulled over again. And again no ticket.

WA Highway 4 around Upper Salmon Junction. I was doing 71 in a 55 and crested a hill staring down a Sheriff in an unmarked SUV going the opposite direction. He flicked on his lights before I could get my foot off the gas - I was impressed.

"71 in a 55, eh? Well at least you weren't doing 90. This area is kind of like a landing strip, isn't it. What kind of car is this? A Honda ... ah, fun. License and registration, please."

I had a friend from DC in the car with me and the last time we were in a car together, Oklahoma 2005, he got a ticket doing 80 in a 70. When the sheriff came back I was expecting a nice juicy ticket.

"So 71 in a 55 is about a $180 ticket. But I could be a nice guy and mark you down for 65+ and it would only be about $80. Or I could be a really nice guy and tell you to slow down. So SLOW DOWN. And have a nice day." Handed me my license, patted the door top, and walked back to his car.

I was shocked. I turned to my friend, "What was that? Am I done? Can we go? What's going on?"

"I think you can go, dude. Wow."

And we drove away. At 55mph with the cruise control locked (:

Your lucky day Cops can be cool sometimes. Just last week I trail-braked through a turn on a very old yellow when I should have stopped and waited. Sheriffs deputy hit his lights and I thought oh s#*t I'm bagged. The guy was really nice. Said he could give me an $180.00 ticket but wouldn't if I promised to slow down and stop at yellows. I promised and no ticket And I've actually kept the promise. Drive safely.

Had a Bel RX65 in my S before, and it has not been working for a few months. Looking to buy a Valentine One soon. Radar detectors have saved me multiple times and since I have never had a speeding ticket yet, I am feeling I better buy one soon as I almost got a ticket the other day racing around Skyline Rd.

I just upgraded from the 8500 non x50 to the 9500ix. So far I am impressed. I know people tend to be brand loyal, and V1 used to be THE top, but they have not really been impressive in the past several comparos I have read. This is concerning and part of the reason I did not go V1.

And Lazer jammers only work when they are using lazer - many police are still using radar.

OSP and Marion County Sheriffs love lasers (dont ask me how I know...)

I don't speed in the city anyway. Just the freeway/interstate on roadtrips... Ill be purchasing a blinder soon and ill still have my radar/laser detector too.

The combo is the best way - if you only have one - you are only half covered.
