Well for peace of mind, I would say there are far more people in the group who would testify the COs have shown due diligence than those who might say the group was 'lead astray', should the need arise. Having served on both civic and criminal juries I found it surprising how insistent those groups were in making people accountable for their own actions instead of passing the buck to someone else.
Very good point Paul

Abhi, I don't think you should look at it quite like that just yet.

All these comments and depressng discussion is mostly to inform everyone of the possibilities. To make sure everyone knows what they might be getting into.

Brandon has it right when he said it's unsubstantiated fear (so far) that puts it in your mind. The risk is still very very low, but is still risk that you all should be aware of. I'd like to think that it is Larry and my way of laying the cards on the table so you all know what we are trying to come to terms with and hunting for the ideal solution for. I think I am safe to speak for Larry as well when I say that we are always open to suggestions and discussion to try and find a better way if there is one!

In basically every case, it is easy to back it up with the "We're just friends meeting for D&D" and being perfectly fine (and accurate!).

The main concern only really develops on the big organized summer drives that we find 30 cars with 10 of them being new people we don't know where the clarification is truly needed. Brandon, this reason is why the waivers may be necessary. "We're all friends out on a drive" is a bad assumption with new people who have never been or rarely been on a drive and do not yet fall into the "friend" category with the group. Just a thought.

Like I said previously, in the grand scheme of the group, I feel very little is changing except these explanations that hopefully will just stay in the back of your mind "just to be safe".

I think limiting it to S2000s only is a huge step toward eliminating missfits. Then you have to worry about the ones who show up with a super modded car - you know the type. CF hood, loud exhaust, body kit, aftermarket wheels ... oh wait a second ...

Easy there cowboy, with your blingin' wheels and your fresh custom paint. Next thing we know you'll have a wing the size of a 747 hanging off the back of that hot rod

For some reason I think Larry has better taste then that but only time will tell. I think Larry is more of the Delorean style doors kind of guy. Come on Larry, be the first S with Delorean style doors

Wow, you are RIGHT Brandon.

The only thing that is stopping me is trying to figure out where I would attach the hinges!

While cleaning up the basement I did come across an old closet door. Maybe I could spruce that up and use that for a wing?

Aaron- Not only is it a thought, it is a very good one. The thing is if this is the way we want to look at it we need to do it right. Have a lawyer write up a document that states all of our drive rules and makes the person acknowledge that by breaking these guidelines they are the sole person responsible if any incidents happen.

IMO- Having no "contract" in this situation is much better then having a amater written "contract". If we want to look legit we might as well go the extra mile and make it legit.

We need to either choose to be a club with all the proper legalities taken car of or choose to keep the low key image of just a group of friends. If we choose the later though check with your insurance to make sure they will cover any claims if they happen on one of these events.

FYI- I was questioned about the S2ki Car Club by my insurance company when I had that claim from getting rear ended in Cali. I had to prove to them that even though this was a organized event, the drive to the eent was not part of it and that I was not part of a "club". The main thing they asked me was "Did you pay any fees, dues, entry charges of any sort?". Of course the answers were no to all of those so it was a non issue for me. The only real reason this all came up was because I was rear ended by the same type of car.
