Questions for Folks with Test Pipe
woah.. are you the same guy that started "what's with Oregon people? " thread? I guess sarcasm and having a sense of humor only works when you make the posts.
I just find it interesting that there's always 1 or 2 people that says the same things you do regarding this topic, yet people do it anyway. So, no, it didn't "stung", gave me a good laugh though. One of those, "I should have saw that coming" threads.
No hard feelings. FWIW, my car isn't even a daily driver, and I'm actually thinking about keeping the CAT back on for a while after this DEQ for my own reasons.

Play nice, guys: everyone's got a right to their opinion. But (on the subject of test pipes), I do hope this conversation will at least prod all of us to think about whether it's a "mod" worth doing. There really isn't much gain, and we should all strive to leave a smaller environmental footprint.
I agree. There's just really no point discussing the same points that people has already covered since the Test pipe existed. Some people will say that TP is the best bang for the buck in terms of mods for the S2000, some people don't like it b/c of emission problems it causes, especially if they live in a more populated area. It does just come down to each person's opinion on this matter. I actually never said Mike wasn't entitled to his.
However, I still appreciate everyone's input regarding the usage of a Test Pipe. I just made the mistake of asking a simple question regarding TP and DEQ here and didn't expect otherwise.

I can tell you, for a fact (I once had the dyno plots to prove it) that removing the stock cat won't unleash much power for the stock motor -- certainly nothing that's noticable on the street. It might change the sound of the motor a bit, but I'm hard pressed to believe that venting exhaust gasses straight to the atmosphere is worth the (pretty subtle) change in your exhaust note. Better to try a different muffler. My two cents. I respect your right to make your own decisions and appreciate your having asked the question to begin with. Peace.

Guess that stung, huh? Good. I think it's a very selfish act to run TPs on the street. I have a little more tolerance on the track, since the number of track miles cars do is so much less. But FWIW, my car is track only and I'm still running the cat.

I plan on swapping my TP back on for DEQ. The thing that really hurts the environment is probably the cleaner I use on the exhaust tips that gets washed into the ground water. (Sorry Mike, I'm still not buying a Prius).
FWIW you'll probably pass. I took my turbo sentra in, all the emissions stuff was gone, it ran a bit rich, was never tuned, I changed absolutely nothing (other than putting back on the exhaust and cat) and it passed... had they gotten into boost it may have been a different story, point being, it had none of the emissions junk from the factory, they were not exactly trained mechanics at DEQ, they didn't look for anything.
