DEA is only in the metro area to my knowledge (Portland).
No Smog/Safety here in bumpkin-land.

Cops like eyeballing me in the S. Been followed numerous times. Pulled over quite a few times too, but havent gotten a ticket...yet *knocks on many woods*. Obviously I'm the exception, not the rule.

Welcome to Oregon ahead of time. Whereabouts in HI? My dad is currently living in Kihei.

The test isn't that rigorous, I believe as long as you aren't throwing any codes you pass. I believe it's required in Portland/Metro and Medford area.

^^
My first summer with the S involved a $427 ticket on the S. Oregon Coast for "speed racing" because I burned out around a corner.

I got it dropped though.

I got a speeding ticket on 97 between Bend and Redmond for doing something like 80mph, totally deserved it. Was my first ticket in like 8yrs though so the judge had mercy on me.

Also got pulled over by a sheriff once when I opened her up on the onramp, but I let right off once I got onto the highway, so he never had time to clock me and let me off with a warning. Good thing too, because I got up to around 80mph there.

And I got pulled over one time leaving downtown Bend because "it sounded like you got on it". uhhhh, ok.... He ran my registration and whatnot and let me go.

For the most part the cops around here seem to not pay me much attention though. I am always trying to stay low-key and I never have them follow me around town waiting for me to make a mistake or anything like that. Now my buddy with the EVO gets that all the time (and he's a good driver too, he's very good about following the rules), we always tell him it must be the wing.

you'll be fine without a cat as long as you have it one when you go through DEQ, never heard of a cop in Oregon checking to see if a cat was on. Hell, I drove around in a turbo sentra for 2 years with ONLY a downpipe... a few times I even ended up at red lights right next to cops, I'd let them start going, then ever so gently ease on the gas.

No worries, you'll be fine as long as you're not driving stupid.
