Default Students 4 Giving

This term I've decided that I would volunteer my time to give back to the community. It is actually a win-win situation for me. My accounting professor let half the class use this as a project instead of doing some boring accounting project for the term. Here are the details:

What is Students4Giving?

Students4Giving is a philanthropic and educational group at Portland Community College that teaches students about philanthropy and its role in our community. Additionally it raises funds through an auction and book sale in the fall and winter terms to donate to nonprofit organizations within our area in the spring.

What has the group learned?

There is never enough money to handle all the needs in our community.
We must use our resources wisely and evaluate grnt requests on individual program merit.

What has the group accomplished?

Students4Giving distributed $19,000 to local nonprofit organizations last year.
Raised over $10,000 to be distributed to local community nonprofit organizations.

How can you help?

Donate auction items, For ideas, please see http://www.pccstudents4giving.cmarket.com
Become an auction sponsor.
Bid on items at the auction website starting on November 13th, 2009.

I am just throwing this out there to see if anyone has any items that they would like to donate. You can also donate yourself. For instance, if you were an accountant you can donate an hour of your time or something. Please let me know if you would like to contribute. Anything can help

Thanks for reading this long long post.

Thanks Lai for all you do. I would love to help, but I recently donated all my items to sell to my team for a garage sale for Susan Komen for Breast Cancer. Fund raising is a lot of hard work, I understand this as I am working on 2 fund raisers coming up soon. This is a wonderful thing that you are doing.

It is a lot of hardwork, especially with 3 hard classes + working full time + fundraising = no time for me to do anything for the next 2 months...

But fundraising and giving back was something that I have always wanted to get into but just never had the time =)

Lai, that sounds like a very busy schedule. The giving back is very important and will be well worth it. I volunteer for 8 different non-profit organizations and most of them are for the disabled community. I work mostly with a group called Winners On Wheels which is a scouting group for kids from 4 to 17 in wheelchairs, even though I am the volunteer, they have given me more than I can ever given them.

Let me know if you or anyone else is ever looking for an organization to give back. I can help with suggestions.
