Default what tires for winter?

I have started driving my s2000 again and i'm rolling on bridgestone RE11 tires. These tires are not so good in the winter and I feel very unsafe when it gets below 35. Is anyone still using there summer tires or what tires do you recommend during the winter months?

re-11 and any dedicated summer tire like star spec are absolutely terrible when its cold outside, its not a matter of driving within the roads conditions, the problem is the soft rubber is made for warm temperatures and basically freezes.

i use blizzak lm-25 in the winter, its one of the performance blizzaks that handles great and grips the road in rain/cold weather and even gets me up to timberline without any problems, a performance oriented winter tire is basically the equivalent to a re-11 when the temperature is this cold

Timberline in an S in the winter. Can't think of a better testimony for the Blizzaks! But if you're not actually going to drive in the snow and are looking for a better compound for cold temps, maybe something in an ultra high performance all season tire will do well and get you much better tread life. Maybe something like Conti's ExtremeContact DWS or Bridgestone's RE970AS?

Since I actually have to deal with snow more than you valley folk, I use Toyo Observes. They're starting to get a bit ridiculous on price though....

Doug had also mentioned in the past about his Dunlop DZ-101 (little brother to the star spec) and driving in the cold/rain and feeling very confident.

I have a used set of blizzaks that came with my car... Look like 80% tread left...225/17, 255/17. Anyone intersted let me know. I have no use for them, as my car does go out in the winter...

I have toyo observes and in just wet pavement conditions they are utterly horrible you can kick the back end out without any effort at all or indirectly, my kuhmo escta spt did twice as good in the rain/wet pavement, the observes only do well in the snow and ice
