Default Heading down to Seattle next week...

I'll be heading down to Seattle next weekend.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to go see and where to eat?

I'll be staying in Bellevue. Is it a bad idea to try to drive/park in downtown Seattle?

Go downtown to pike, it's always something fun to do. The first starbucks and the gum wall are right there to.

if you are close to the 550 bus route, just take 550 + link rail to get to pike's market. I personally avoid parking in that area.

What do you like to do? Sight see, people watch, tourist crap, museums, history?

There are actually some good ideas in there, although none of them are in Bellevue (because there is nothing interesting in Bellevue). It's from 2008 so some of the restaurants are outdated. The Zig Zag is still there and the guy just won "Bartender of the Year" or some similar award.

The Conservatory is pretty cool, and ties to the Arboretum via Interlaken park. Easy to spend an entire day wandering around. The Asian Art Museum is near the Conservatory, as is a water tower which gives some decent views of Seattle, Bellevue, and the surrounding area.

If you go downtown (Seattle, not Bellevue), you can hit the Needle (almost mandatory), which is in Seattle Center (also features Experience Music Project, an IMAX theater, and some science/museum places). The Olympic Sculpture Park, waterfront area (lots of restaurants and tourist crap), and Pike Place Market are all walking distance. Parking is not great but there is plenty of it near the waterfront/Market. Parking near Seattle Center blows.

Note that crossing the bridges (I90 or 520) can be a painful experience at some times of the day. Fortunately (or not) there isn't a Mariners or Sounders game to jack things up during the day. Unfortunately there are 7pm Seachickens preseason games both the 14th and 21st. You will want to avoid I90/I5 interchange area from ~6-7:30 at the least, as well as 9:30-11.

Food... I don't make suggestions unless you're looking for something specific.
