Default heat coming from ebrake handle?

hey guys,

first time this either happened, or first time i noticed...

was driving around yesterday... and i noticed warm air coming from somewhere. i looked at the climate control and it was on full cold... so i move my arm around the cabin and noticed warm air coming out of the ebrake handle area... where the ebrake meets the center console. anyone else notice this?

Funny it took you this long to notice. Underneath your central console is the transmission tunnel. The heat from the engine, tranny and exhaust pipe builds up in that tunnel and turns it into an EasyBake oven. It comes out the spaces between your ebrake handle and the adjacent shroud.

That's actually good to know. I never noticed it. I've seen some electronics mounted in the coin holder area on some S2000s, I wonder if the heat has ever affected their functionality.

There have been a few threads from owners who have actually insulated the tranny tunnel to reduce the heat coming through the console. If you are interested, you can try a search to find them.

Or, you could cross-drill the console to improve cooling!
