Congrats on your new purchase! If I were you, I'd find a friend or relative with a garage asap! Speaking from experience, I can tell you that your car will more than likely be broken into if you leave it outside. This is a very painful lesson to learn that unfortunately too many of us have learned the hard way.

What can I say?!? Although the opinions vary, it sounds like most think alarms don't really do much, and that garages are about the only precaution which (sometimes) works. Unfortunately, jhoostoy, I don't have relatives here and none of my friends have garages (that I can use, let alone that I can use and live near me). So I don't have much choice until a spot opens up here ....

But I'm open to advice (obviously) so let me know if you think I really am to think about not getting an alarm. It's just that if insurance is going to cover any damages, and I don't save anything on my rates off of a $600 investment, how can I justify getting one?? If I do decide to get one, it looks like a good one would be a Clifford matrix 10.5 with tilt and prox sensors; don't see why I'd need the backup battery (for another $100), eh? (how could they get past the other alarms to open the hood and disconnect the battery?)

Get any alarm .... even a $2 flashing light will do a lot to save you from the casual thieves ......... insurance or not, it's the pain in the a$$ savings you'll get from the $600 if the alarm even works once to have the would be thief move on to an easier (no alarm) target. I know all the talk about if they really want it they're going to get it anyways but don't fool yourself, the S2000 just isn't that anymore. You need to fear the POS kids that are going to butcher your stuff w/o the alarm, not the professionals who have the skills to out wit any alarm system know to man.

From your post, it seems to me that you got caught up with the idea of not be able to spend free money. Then look at it this way, I don't know what's your comprehensive deductable, if you are having a $500 deductable, then the alarm will pay for itself. Parking a S2k outside of the garage and even in a open garage, (like those in UW campus or apartment bldgs.) being it's a convertable and the S2k seats are always in demand, I had heard someone's top being slashed for 3 times in 6 mo. Getting a hard top might be a good investment. Of course, you could use your insurance money after someone slashed yours. Here, another Free Mod for you.

Get a 2 way alarm. I had compustar and pretty happy with it. If you need a recomendation, my buddy had a shop in S. Seattle and they do good job of it. www.kansaimotorsports.com They can also hook you up with many other goodies for S2k.
