Default Mait Req'd question

OK this might be a dumb question...

When I start my car, the maint. req'd light flashes a few times and goes out. Is there actually a problem since it's not staying on? This started a few days ago after I got in some really crappy traffic and my clutch got a bit hot.
I'd rather not take it in to the shop unless I really need to, so I thought I'd get your opinions.

Nothing to worry about.

That light just goes on after a fixed number of miles after it was last reset. IOW, a dummy light to remind you to go in for an oil change/scheduled maintenance. After a few more miles it will start staying on.

You can reset it yourself by some combination of key position and pressing the trip odometer reset button, I think. It's somewhere on this site in the FAQ/Library.

Wait till the light comes on solid like Ted says.
Then ........... start w/ key "off"
push and hold trip reset button and turn key "on" .... continue to hold the trip reset button for 10-15 seconds (feels like a long time) maybe longer until the maint light goes out.

Wouldn't hurt to change your oil when the light comes on solid too...

I hope nobody is actually relying (waiting) on that light for oil change intervals seems like you'd only be changing it every 20,000 miles if you did ........

What's an oil change? I just fill the car with gas and push the red button...

My maint lite just started comming on and I only have 6200 miles, and I got a oil change at 3500. So I guess the shop didn't reset it when I was in. OR ITS ABOUT TO BLOW UP!!!!!!

I think it comes on solid for the normal condition scheduled maintenance, probably starts flashing 1000 miles before:

7,500

15,000

22,500

30,000

37,500

45,000

52,500

60,000

67,500

75,000

82,000

90,000

97,500

105,000

112,500

120,000
You'd think that the ECU would be smart enough to know when your driving is not under normal conditions and would flash the light for that schedule, which is much more frequent.

Does any one use the recomended long interval for changing synthetic oil? They said 7500 miles for synth. Seems too long, but maybe I'm just used to dino oil.

Moms came on while I was rollin to Cali and I was scared! Brunt assured me that it was just not reset when they had just done the service on it before I left for my trip.

Never turned it off and just took it back to Kirk Honda for another Oil Change and told them about it. He said it was cause the 24 K service was due.

Im now at 26K and they just changed the oil. They did Not turn the light off. I didn't realize about the 24 K service before bringing it in or I would of had them do it then. He said not to worry about it till after I get back from my upcoming trip to Vegas Do you think I should worry bout it or not?????
