it sounds like a lot of us in the import scene keep getting harassed for modified exhaust systems and some of us instead of fighting this ridicules law are turning to things like making there systems look like oem or just buying oem instead. i don't know much about changing laws but im sure someone here does and with all are help we can probably do something about it because if they see that we just bend over and take there B.S laws they will just keep messing with us and adding more dumb laws until we all drive super not cool smart cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm guessing you've had a run in before with this? Is this another infraction on your record?

Do you really want the law changed? Do you want it like California's emissions laws?

If you got a ticket, STFU and pay it, there's no way to fight it.

Oh you can fight it. Go to the court house, prove that the police officer didn't do a roadside db test (they all have db testers in their cruiser), and it's dismissed. At least that's how it worked with me. In fact, the officer didn't even show up to my case since he knew he didn't follow protocol.

I'm guessing a lot of police won't come in for something like that, so yeah you might be able to fight the ticket.

I wouldn't count on it, but good luck with that one?!

funny thing is they never tickets those stupid harley bikes that are mad loud but pick on us.
I hate coming off like an ass but just because you never see bikers getting pulled over for their pipes doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Do you even ride...?

And yes,

My Bike AND my car are ridiculously loud. If I get pulled over for it so be it..... it won't be a surprise after it is LAW.

I have never seen a harley pulled over for exhaust. I have friends who ride them and they say its not a problem, and their friends haven't have a problem with it either. Cars on the other hand is a different story, with almost all my friends with modified exhaust have been harassed or ticketed, myself included.

I used to ride a 636 until I decided I was playing with fire and didn't want to get seriously injured

I ride an Aprilia RSV Mille (1000cc v-twin) with a full aftermarket exhaust. It is loud.

I have been pulled over for speeding away too quickly from a stop light. I can only assume the exhaust noise contributed, since it wasn't like I went over the speed limit, did a burn out, or a wheelie.

Well contrary to what your friends have said and from all the bikers you've seen pulled over that you surveyed as to why they were pulled over(im sure) it DOES happen. Believe it or not there's probably also a lot of people that complain that cars with loud exhausts never get pulled over because they never hear/see/know about it.

I ride but not a freakin harley. There was this pos harley rider that would go wot in the morning(down the street) like 7am which use to wake up my new born. I called the cops and complained but they didnt do anything and no i havent seen harley riders get pulled over because i believe most cops are biased and favor them. It just reminds of the south park espisode; people look at you and think how ridicolous you look(no its not cool)...and the outfit..its like a bunch of middle age men in homoerotic..i laugh everytime i see them. ****in Harley all that nosie and you dont go nowhere. So ya ****...Harleys!

SW 46.37.390.3.1 Modified Exhaust 1st offense - $134

This infraction means that the exhaust system was modified, in the State of Washington the Officer's do not have to meassure the Audible DB's, If the officer does measure the dbs your car is producing that further reinforces his ticket and good luck fighting that one, infact if you do attempt to fight it the Judge can cite you with a noise violation.

btw: The officer is not required to show up.

Stating to the Judge that the officer "didnt check for audible DB's" does not make the ticket inadmissible. It only further incriminates you of having a modified Exhaust which is the reason you were cited..

I understand you had an exception in your specific situation, but that just means the Judge was lenient.

There is a way to fight this ticket if its your first offence. You would need to show the Judge picture's of the factory unit installed on your vehicle, and if you would like to further reinforce your argument you can get your vehicle inspected with-in 48hrs of the ticket and show the Judge documentation that its infact a OEM Unit / Carb compliant.
