Human beings may soon create life from inanimate molecules for the first time... That's FASCINATING, in my opinion. I wonder what other people think...

Depends on your definition of life. We already make machines that can make more of themselves.

I like this one from Merriam Webster...

an organismic state characterized by capacity for metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction
If you can find me a machine that fits into that definition, I'll be impressed.
