Problem with mom's Miata

She drives a Miata and a C320 4Matic, ha ha.
Okay, I haven't seen the car so I am just relaying what she has said.
I thinks park plugs were replaced (or the ones that looked possibly bad) and coil packs were checked. The CEL code didn't yield anything.
She says that the engine "missing" comes and goes, which makes me think it shouldn't be the CC. I wonder if her shop has a test pipe available to try that out. Hahaha, I never knew that was their purpose.

But I'm guessing the engine has worse problems. I still don't know why a "specialty shop" doesn't have a good idea what is wrong. There are half a zillion Miatas on the roads. It's not like this is a mysterious exotic.
