Put it to rest

337 - do you work @ HOB? I've had limited interaction with service. Couple of oil changes and the spark plug TSB.
On the 2nd oil change - the "techs" they assigned to my car didn't even know where the $%^ dipstick was on an S2000.
That's very confidence inspiring.

I asked the service advisor about changing my own oil and maintaining the warranty and she said "no problem - even my dad does that. Just keep the reciepts"

Nice introduction to the forum. Start by bashing potential customers and then slowly backpedal to try not to alienate them.
Fact of the matter is that I used to own two different Hondas several years ago. Good cars, but by no means anything spectacular.
Honda techs...no better than techs that work for Chevy or Ford or Nissan in my experience.
You find a good mechanic...you stick with them. In the past 12 years I've had a total of 2 really good mechanics. So, if people want to request a specific mechanic (or the recommendation of a specific mechanic) I can't find a good reason not to do so.
Besides, if all the HoB techs want is to make the customer happy, then why are requests for a specific mechanic a big deal? Oh...I got it...because if you never get the work in your bay you never get the MONEY for the work...

And to close, most Honda techs are not working on Hondas because they are Honda lovers, but because Honda enginering makes servicing these cars a real joy.
