fperra,
Well, actually I know less than nothing about NHRA rules. I always just keep going when I get to that 1/4 mile mark. The rest of the track is just too tempting...
But, Russ builts a lot of NHRA cages and is very familiar with the rules. I'm sure that this cage wouldn't pass. If I was willing to cut up more interior, he was going to build a full cage with A-pillar bars and removable top & door bars. That'd be pretty trick, but I just didn't want to go that far into this car. Russ will be a bit busy this weekend, cause he's driving this at the Rose Cup races at PIR.
But after Sunday, you could catch him at (503)309-4220 or (503)254-6706 or On the web.
I'm sure he could hook you up. With the mods you've got in that car you really outta have a cage in there. Awesome car BTW!!!!!

Guy' Interior Restorations in Portland. His number is 503-224-8657. Store that one away for future use. As nice as your car is, I know you're not afraid to get the best stuff. Guy isn't the cheapest, but he does absolutely excellent work. They've recently moved their shop to 2016 NE Alberta, so if you see the downtown address, that's a stale one.

Hmmmm.... I kinda contemplated that, but I'm coming from a forum where there are NASTY "Cage Fights" over engineering etc. Really didn't want to start some kind of massive flame war over construction/design/etc. Been there... had that. Ended badly.
Luckily, I really trust my fabricator. His cages have probably lived thru more nasty wrecks than I've had hot meals. Just that there were a lot of armchair engineers in my previous cyber life. I dig and trust his work, so I guess that's all that counts. Check out the seat brace he built for the ITA car. Yup, it only fits me... but I think he's pretty fk'n handy myself! That started out as a relatively flat seatback on a Kirkey Road Race Deluxe seat.
Dude's got skillz...

Question for ya... What seats did you use, and how did you mount? Were you able to get yourself lower in the car than you were in the stock seat? We guessed that the harness bar height would be just about right with a race seat in the car, and looking at your pix, I'd say it's just about perfect!
They are custom mounted on sparco rails.
And the harness bar is perfect.... just barely higher than the seat holes.
let me know if you want anything else, like specific pics or whatever

Being 6'2" tall, and failing the broomstick test badly, and having seen two rollover accidents on the track this year alone, I am quite interested in this project.
You mentioned $1500; is that including putting the car's interior back together? I'd be curious about the all-in cost.
Are you going to do anything with the bar to make it street-safe, by which I mean if your un-helmeted head hits it?
Any idea how much weight it adds?
Do you now pass the broomstick test, with a helmet on?
Thanks.
