I also agree that the S2 is a hard car to have as a first RWD car. At your age [...] at your age.
But even "at his age" $20K may not be a lot of money, or he may not want to mod the car. It seems you are making a lot of assumptions about him based on his age. They may or may not be correct assumptions.

The S2K was my first RWD at twice his age, and I spun it off the road within a month of owning it, after never having an accident in all my years driving FWD.

I think he is in a win-win situation anyway. Getting a car like the S for 20K, or getting something else cool for that money (like a well modded Miata) would be fun as hell at any age.
At least we can agree that the S is a tough first RWD car. Looking back on my experience, I should have started w/ a Miata as well.

Yes, I am on MBworld, E46fanatics, M3forum, Ferrarichat, Is300.net, NSXprime, and 6speedonline (Porsche). All as WyattH... I'm a car enthusiast for all makes!

Thanks to everyone for the words of wisdom.
This will be my first car, which means it will obviously be my first RWD car. Since I earned my license a year ago, I've been driving my mother's Miata and my father's AMG Mercedes. I would like to combine the two - Fun of the Miata, speed of the AMG.
I have no intention of getting a Miata for myself, as I can hardly fit in my mother's 2001. But regardless, I will take my car to the track for classes AND practice in high-performance situations.
I would consider the Berlina S2, but I just want fewer than 60k miles.
The glass window came in 2002?? I thought it came in 2003. Thanks for the clarification.
Optikal: Yep, I gather enthusiasts from NSX, M3, Ferrari, AMG, 350Z/G35, and AMG forums for drives every other month. Everybody assumes that I own a car, and I surprise them everytime when the coordinator rides shotgun with somebody else!
I am having a drive on Sunday October 24th to Mt. Rainier. As we get closer, I will make adjustments as necessary depending on the weather. If anybody likes some spirited driving, let me know and I'll give you the 10-4.
Take care, and happy motoring!

Sounds like you have some rear drive experience. That will help. When I bought my S2000 a year ago, I'd only driven a couple rear drive cars a couple times. I'd had more time in a Formula Ford than anything else that was RWD. This summer, after 9 months of ownership, I got the opportunity to drive an E46 M3... it was VERY forgiving compared to the S2000. The S2000 just seems to be its own wicked can of worms.
Finding the older cars with low miles is getting tougher. Remember that even an '01 is going on four years old. At 12k miles per year, that's 48k!
An alternative to Steve's car would be mine. I've got a Berlina '00 model with 33k miles. I've been toying with the idea of selling the car, but I hadn't thought seriously about it. My car is arguably better setup than Steve's (arguably not), but it definitely has more high dollar parts and would come with more goods that may or may not be to your liking. For example, of my 5 sets of wheels, I only have one set that is not stock or JDM.
If I sell my car, I would be asking $25k. This would only be a good deal for you if you were seriously interested in continuing to compete in SCCA Solo2 competition as all of the mods are specific to SCCA's Stock category. But it would come with lots of wheels, tires, and a boat load of spares.
Good luck finding a low miles car that suits your needs and budget!

Andy,
I could be interested. Please post pictures or email to wyatthanson05@hotmail.com. Thanks.
I've driven several E46 M3s. They are ultimately my dream cars (of course behind a 996TT which I have also had the opportunity to drive)... As well as an SL65 AMG, 04 E55 AMG. Yes, I said SL65, not SL55. Hehe.
