Default Adobe AfterEffects...

Does anyone have experience with this package?

Its pricey for what I would like to do (title and credits development..not so much video effects) , so my questions....

1) What are your experiences with using the package?
2) Is it worth the price of the package?
3) Is there a more cost justifiable s/w package out there?
4) Where can I get it cheap?

Thanks

Steve

I've used AE for about six years. It's one of my favorite pieces of software.
I would say this is probably the best package you can get, except, I'd like to know exactly what sort of title and credit development you are doing, as I could give you a better answer.

If we're talking simple credit rolls, this is massive overkill. If we're talking desiging a full title animation intro, then this is a good piece of software to have. Though you'll need to be familar with non-linear keyframe-based effect editing.

I currently edit my videos and slide shows using Pinnacle, their "canned" menuing and titling effects are lacking in my eyes.

I saw some interesting effects by some editors, and it appears the AE was the tool of choice. I can do rolling credits now in Pinnacle, but, I want to create "fly-in" alas the Superman type credits, or fade-in/fade out.

If this stuff is possible in Pinnacle, I have found out how just yet....Perhaps I need to buy even more plug-ins.

From some of the tutorials and screen captures I've seen, it looks similar to the vector based /key frame concepts I used to do with Flash.

Thanks for the input.

The concept is very similar to Flash.

No doubt you will have no problem doing any of that in AE, and very well, too. Yet, AE is capable of doing far more. Just keep that in mind.
