Much cleaner!

Now if you guys were REAL wizards you'd make the fence disappear... I'm only half joking because this is the sort of image that you really could accomplish it on (not so much sharp detail to fake).

I don't have Photoshop (too expensive in the UK) and I'm not in any way expert at post processing, I just tend to fiddle around till I get a result I like

Thought I'd take a shot with this file hope no one minds

1) took the noise down a bit in Noise Ninja, didn't let NN do much sharpening.

2) Colour Balance in Paint Shop pro

3) Bumped the contrast up a tiny bit

4) Brought the Gamma down a bit

5) Reduced the saturation a bit

6) gave it a little unsharp mask

Not sure if this achieves the same objectives that you set out but it's not as noisy at the end.

I agree with ludikris the noise is coming from the processing.
I like it!

To get shots through a fence, you need to open the lens up as much as possible (f/2.8) and get the glass as close to the wire as possible (even take off the lens hood). Last year I didnt have press creds and took some great shots through 2 barriers without a hint of wire or fencing.
Bah - just get a longer lens and a tall truck

Hey Clyde, when are you going to share your 'usual' workflow with us? Just strolled through your flickr site and I was dumbstruck in awe with every snap.

Mad props.
