The 2nd shot in the first post is by far the better shot.

The sense of speed is much greater and the overall effect more pleasing to the eye IMO.

2nd shot, with more blur, is better. Captures the essence of the subject much better.

Regarding your people shots - don't put the face in the middle of the frame. You're wasting a lot of frame that could have been used to show the subject. We're not here to look at the shiny trailer behind their heads, we want to see the person you found interesting enough to take a picture of. Spend some time looking at portraits and candid people shots, and you'll get a better idea of how to frame the subject.

It's something I've been trying to train myself on recently.

That's an excellent point... Until you mentioned that, I never even noticed that.. Thanks for the great advice..

Probably because the only person that drove it were press crew from the hotel to the track...then it was parked until Monday.

The cars were all on the track all day with reporters.. Apparently they were allowed to drive them, but not write about them until they are officially released. If you go to vtec . net you can see that they had the Mugen Civic as well (which they were able to do write-ups on)

Here are two pictures.. same location... which is considered the "better" photo..I know that "better" is a subjective term (I've polled people at work and it's split 50-50...) but I was just curious... is the background TOO blurred in the second photo?
Out of the 1st two I would have to say the 1st shot is better because your primary subject is a bit sharper.... You see no matter how slow you go or don't go, it all comes down to how well the subject is in focus rather than how much blur you achieved w/ your panning technique. The object is to combine both!

Looks like these images were taken in the Keyhole... Right? Here is a shot which was taken in the same area hand-held at 1/60th... Keep your movement to a minimum it will pay dividends:

Also, did you get any head-on shots through the esses?

wow..that's amazing......

I tried to get some head on shots but with the lack of zoom and the limitations of where I could shoot from, I wasn't able to get very many (if at all).
