You've got all your paperwork in order, right? The crossing needs a filled out form that they will fax you, plus 3 copies (front and back) of the car's title, plus a notarized lien release if the title isn't clear. You gotta fax all this 72 hours in advance (talking with a guy at Sweetgrass, they're getting sticky on needing the full 3 days). On the US side, they also need proof of ownership (a bill of sale) when you show up at the counter in addition to the original title. On the Canadian side, they need to see the title the US guy just stamped, plus proof of value (bill of sale or copy of bank draft receipt) from which they'll calculate duty (if a non-us built car) and GST. California DMW provided me we a one-way transit sticker for about $20...checked with Registries here before leaving and they said it was vaild in Canada for a trip to the address on the permit. Don't forget insurance...I got stopped in Twin Falls ID and they looked at ALL my paperwork (they were especially concerned about insurance) before determining I wasn't a criminal and the car wasn't stolen. They said they pulled me over because I had no plate, and while the transit sticker goes on the passenger side windshield in California, it goes on the rear window in Idaho. My apologies If you already knew all this...
