Charge the Park!

Great question, the reason I chose the last weekend in September is for the following:
1) Later in the season brings fewer tourists out on the road, equals more driving pleasure.
2) No significant autox events, I don't know/didn't check the Solo 1 schedule
3) I'm pretty much gone all the other September weekends/or have other items appointments scheduled. (This is a selfish reason but hey
) I also, wanted to set a date and stick with it, although somewhat Draconian this weekend gives attendees enough time in advance to organize everything they will need in plenty of time. ie) campsite, hotel, babysitter
, I don't have kids but who knows!
4) Main reason by far is later in the season means a quieter Jasper and surrounding attractions, I think this weekend is about as quiet as it is going to get before risking any possibility of snow ruining the trip.
I checked into the sunrise/sunset times for Jasper in September and according the weather channel at the attached link the sun will rise at approximately 7:45 on the 26. This would likely give the needed light to make our way up the road. The photogs might love this time as the rising sun will be to their backs for most of the journey up the mountain. I'm not sure if sun at your back is good/bad I'm certainly not an expert at photography either. Here's the link for sunrise/sunset times, I'm fairly sure it is accurate but I had a difficult time finding information specific to Jasper.
Sunrise/Sunset for Jasper
It certainly can be quite a bit cooler and I would recommend bringing a warm jacket and toque probably if you plan on driving top down. You might look like a goof but the road will reward you in spades!

Glad to hear you ordered a GoPro and will be putting it to work on this weekend, I was pondering whether or not I should order one for the weekend but I think I'm going to order some new rubber right away instead.
Blixhavn:
Hopefully, you can make it out for the weekend, if not sounds like we will have some good pictures to bring back! It would be great to have two GoPro's you could definately get some great shots. There isn't a youtube video of this road which surprised me but you/Saaboteur could be the first.
RockyMountainS2K:
Good to hear you're up for the event
It looks like we are going to have a great turn out for this event. I'm really looking forward to it, I have a few questions to bounce off the group:
1) Good meeting spot on the west side of Edmonton to depart from on Saturday morning? I'm from out of town so I'm not too terribly familiar with Edmonton. Tim Hortons on Stony Plain Road before Anthony Henday (Walmart Parking Lot)
2) Anyone else feel free to recommend some great drives in Jasper National Park. The scenery is pretty much great anywhere you go, the highway 93A might be pretty good but I haven't travelled the full length of it.

I am good with a 9:00 AM departure at the Western Stony Plain Tims!
I think the only other detail to hammer out is to find some other awesome drives to put that go pro to work! I am off to scrutinize google maps then!

My GoPro HD arrived today! I picked up the 'Motorsports MegaPack' from pointofviewcameras.ca
Came with the motorsports GoPro HD, plus roll bar mount, extra battery, memory card, wall and car adaptors. There's a kiosk in WEM by Sportchek/Atmosphere that sells everything, but the online deal was much much better.
I bought it for my upcoming honeymoon trip to Maui, but I'm hoping it'll get some good use with the S2k too!

Good call I'll try and pick up a map of the area this weekend, Once upon a time I saw a "back roads" of the Canadian Rockies atlas and I should've bought it! I'll see if I can find it again.
Saaboteur:
I'm pumped for your GoPro, I'm sure it will produce some awesome results. A few folks I know who autox have them and they are very very cool. How does the roll bar mount work?

It's just a glorified clamp, sandwiches the roll bar. There are a few different semi articulating arms that go with it too. Should be fun, but now I guess I need a roll bar!
but I'm actually hoping I can use it on a bicycle too. On Maui we are going to ride bikes down a volcano.

^That's going to be a lot of fun Vince!
My parents have a condo in maui, in south kihei to be exact, I have done the whole volcano biking thing and it is pretty cool! Make sure you guys also take a snorkeling trip out to molokini, it's pretty amazing and if the wife allows it I'd also recommend a day of deep sea fishing! Enjoy!

I'm pumped to see the footage we get with the GoPro. I was at West Ed on Sunday and took a peek at the booth outside that sports store. Some very cool hardware there! I would love the helmet Cam for some of the skiing I do in the winter!
Anyhow, I think the drive to Miette Hotsprings looks like a good one to do on Saturday afternoon. There are a few other drives but they are much further away down towards Bnaff.
What is everyone's thought on opening the drive up to other car forums? I'm thinking the more the merrier but I'm open to suggestions!
