Clunking Noise when in Reverse
Has anyone experienced a clunking noise while in reverse. Reminds me of the sound my 1976 Civic would make when the sub frame loosened up. Any ideas?
More details, Ian.
When does this noise happen? When you are "going" into reverse? When you are "in" reverse but not moving? When you are "in" reverse and beginning to move? When you are "in" reverse and moving? How fast? How long? Car after first cold start of the day? Car after it is up to operating temps? Any other details?
Without more to go on, you may as well have one of your service guys take a look at it.

I noticed it when I was slowly backing into the garage which is on a small incline. Just one clunk was heard. I'm thinking it could be a loose suspension component, or driveline issue since it happens under load but I'm not sure. It's definitely not the brakes.
If it happens once with the change in direction, it is likely to be the loose hub nut thing. Ask your techs about it. The rear wheel hub nut has been known to need tightening. There is a TSB on this. The nut must be removed, the area lightly greased, the nut put back on BUT with a higher torque. The original torque was 181 lb/ft. The new TSB torque is 220.
