Damn Cold
It is freezing out. My winter tires are still in my buddy's garage. Driving on summers (even without the snow) is a joke. I just accelerated from like 1100rpm and broke the tires loose. Wow.
I heard a rumor that we'll likely see temps drop at least once or twice to -40c. Is that true? If so, please forward my mail to me at 1011 12th Street, Los Angeles, California.

Every year we get some freezing cold temperatures for a week or 2. Usually in January where we see -30 degrees plus wind chills making it feel like -40 degrees to even -50 degrees. The wind chill kills, but usually soon after we get chinooks, which is just awesome. But it sucks cause it melts the snow and makes you wana drive your S2K.
I'm living in edmonton and i will be driving my s2k this winter.
I recently installed a hardtop, a block heater, some blizzaks, and put a sandbag in my trunk. I also switched to a 5w-30 mobil 1 synthetic oil to help with the cold cranks.
We haven't had much snow yet but so far no problems with traction; winter tires as opposed to summer tires really are a night and day difference.
I've heard good things about this car's handling in winter conditions, as it is extremely well balanced and the lower torque rating helps with the traction on the bottom end.
I'm very confident wtih the car's ability to maneuever in the snow, my only concern is ground clearance in the event we get a heavy snowfall.
Just curious how many other alberta guys are driving their s2000's this winter, and if so what steps have you taken to prepare your car for the cold season?

I would not recommend the sand bag.
Adding weight to the rear will help with traction, but it will seriously hinder you by sending the back end sliding during turns. Think momentum, you're going forward and turn but the weight in the back wants to keep going straight. That makes the back end slide out.
Aside from that, good choice on all the other winter prep gear, I think you'll love this car in the snow!

It's damn cold here in Winnipeg today! We've received lots of snow for this time of year even by Winnipeg standards. We usually get pummeled with snow in late December followed by -40C for the entire month of January.
Global warming what, Al Gore??

I had the same experience with my summer tires last Thursday night... it was nice and chilly outside so the vtec was hitting harder than usual (really?) and causing the tires to break loose when the tach struck six in second gear in a straight line. Gotta love it.
But I installed my Blizzak ws-60 tires yesterday (on MikeyCB's AP1 wheels which look great) just in time for the drive to work in the snow this morning. Great traction! Love them. Tirerack.com just did a test and rated these things #1 against the x-ice, Dunlops and some studded tire.
I don't think I'll be installing a block heater since I park underground at home and at work and any time I park outside I generally won't have access to a plug-in. I've always had block heaters but have actually only plugged one in about three times in my life.
The only other winter mods I'll be doing are winter floor mats and a great ski rack (pictures will be up soon... this thing is slick and doesn't touch the paint!)

My experience so far: winter tires suck for dry pavement and REALLY suck on wet pavement. However, on ice and snow, they rock big time!
So far, enjoying winter driving with my S2k. Autocross experience definitely helps comfort level with power sliding at higher speeds and power...
