I'm really glad that deal all worked out! I'm also glad I didn't have to drive with the top down and a stack of tires on my seat in this weather

I just came inside a few minutes ago from putting my Blizzaks on and went for a drive. I realize there's no snow on the ground but it's already SO clear that the differences between summer and winter compounds can be a real danger if you aren't using the right one in the right season.

I'd almost forgotten what a difference the right tires can make. BTW Dufter, did you happen to drive on those all seasons at all? I honestly loved em!!! They even got several track days in both in Calgary and Toronto. I'm quite surprised at how well they held on...until they got a little hot and gooey on the track and really needed a cool down to avoid some serious slides.

Sadly, the all seasons never made it onto my car for the gratuitous burn-out sessions! It was soooooo tempting but I just couldn't make the logistics work and I was dreading putting the winter rims on because I love the look of my 17's. HOWEVER... once I put the winter rims on, I realized the 16's actually look fantastic as well and that I should not have been so stubborn and really taken advantage of the free rubber to ruin! Darn it anyway. Oh well... I'll just assume that I would have been busted with a $400 stunting ticket if I'd done it which would have been highly annoying. Ya, that feels better.

Glad to hear you're rockin the blizzaks again!

Thanks for the advice guys, i have since taken out the sandbag before administering the following tests:

We got a huge dump of snow in edmonton overnight, so i took early this morning as an opportunity to really get a feel for the car in some fresh snow.

My first impressions were the car's handling is very predictable, and easily managable especially for a RWD. The blizzaks did a great job gripping the snow and keeping the car planted in line.

I was able to find a large empty parking lot covered with fresh snow, and did some braking and turning tests to get a better feel for the car's handling. I did some varying degrees of turns, and got a good judgment of the amount of throttle required to break the tail loose. I was actually quite suprised at how well the blizzaks held on, as i had to really have the wheel cranked and give it excess throttle to make the rear swing out.

This helped me out a lot, and I recommend doing this to anyone who will be winter driving their s2000. Good to get a proper feel for the car before attempting to winter drive it.

In my opinion for what it is, with a good set of winter tires the s2k does extremely well in the snow, so i say bring on the white stuff!

Good stuff. It's tons of fun in parking lots eh...I can't wait to grab my camera and film a few videos. Might need a few other S's though to hold the winter S2K Olympics...

I am so happy I put mine on.

Dufter, if I'd known you weren't going to burn em up, I would've put on a little filmed smokeshow!!! jk, no worries. It's not all the time you get free rubber to destroy. I'll have that chance again in the spring because these summer rears are pretty much shot. The fronts are like-new though.

a full tank of gas is plenty heavy for tractional purposes...


i drove my s2k last winter and loved it...

This winter driving is awesome! The 16" Blizzaks deliver a seriously smooth ride compared to my 17" summer Potenzas. It feels like an entirely different car! In fact, I am going to check the air pressure tomorrow because it's almost too smooth... ha!

I'm off to hack up my new winter floor mats now to make them fit properly...

Dufter, the snow on the ground might add a little softness to the ride as well I noticed the same today myself. Driving on the summers yesterday, they actually froze with flat spots over the course of 3 hours outside so when I started driving they had to warm up to get round again and stop vibrating and making "tump tump tump" noises.

I agree on the smoothness with the winter tires, feels much cushier and i'm running steelies so it's nice to have piece of mind not having to worry about damaging my summer rims.

For those who have driven their s2k's in previous winters, did you ever have any issues with ground clearance from the snow? I'm not concerned with main city roads too much, but i'm wondering if residential streets will become an issue as they can get pretty rutted up as the winter drags on. And i'm referring to a stock height S, mine isn't lowered and has stock suspension settings.

Also, Dufter, thats a good idea what kind of winter floormats are you running and where did you pick them up? My factory floormats are red and i imagine they will get pretty dirty in a hurry should i leave them in for the winter..
