Default Ipod Question

Hey folks,

Anyone have any experience with the Apple Ipod? My wife would like one for Christmas, and herein lies the problem:

I have, back from the Napster days of old, a whack of old MP3s on my PC. If I buy her an Ipod, of course, I would like to put these MP3s on the Ipod. During my research, I learned that the only way to put songs onto an Ipod is to a) Purchase them from Itunes, or b) Burn existing CDs into Itunes, and then transfer from there.

I have no qualms in paying for legally obtained music, but how do I get my old MP3s onto an Ipod? Or am I better off settling for a run of the mill MP3 player?

Lemme know your thoughts.

Cheers
Asif

Asif, I don't have direct experience with this, but my wife just got one and from what I can tell, the Ipod comes with software that you put onto your computer so you can convert stuff into the proper format. She gets "book tapes" on CD, plays them on her computer and then puts these onto her Ipod.

I have an ipod mini filled with "acquired" mp3's. I hate itunes interface with a passion, but it did load up all my songs onto the ipod for me.

You don't need itunes to get the music downloaded into your ipod. However, they have a built-in interface in their website that would
facilitate the download process (of course you have to buy their music)

"Whack of old MP3's" - yes you can download them into your ipod. I believe, MusicMatch have an interface already built in.

Good luck and

Happy Holidays to all!
