One of our Redliners (Mr. Coffey) has a deposit on an Elise from the dealership in Vancouver. They've had his money for almost a year and apparently they are supposed to start trickling in very soon. The rumor is that they may only get a handful of cars this year...Ken will have to wait a LONG time.

Chris,
$64K for the R171 at 3.9% lease say, would be more affordable than 7 or 8.0%. The truck would definately be going and I would be left with the new vehicle, my fiancee's Civic, and my Merkur. That said, I have to make a conscientious decision when picking out my new vehicle. Since I'm not buying until late Spring, it is likely that some of these new hot models will become more appealing once the 2005 auto year is well underway.
As for the Elise, what appeals to me is the rawness of the car. No power windows coupled with the spartan interior gets my whets my appetite. Add to that a stylish exterior, a delightful colour palette, a British heritage (I'm an ex-pat), and Toyota mechanicals, and you've got a winner. I have heard too Brady, that ingress and egress is more of a pain than other sports cars, so with any luck, I don't gain any weight and or/lose my supple physique any time soon!
Hmm...I think I've just sold myself on the Elise!

For a long time I wanted to get the BMW 330 but lease rates were always hovering around 7.7% and I didn't think it would be worth it to pay so much interest so I never did make the purchase. For some wonderful reason, BMW lowered it to 3.3% this year and the resulting difference is a $900 vs. $1100 monthly payment
I really want the new SLK too but the limiting factor will most likely be the interest rate unless I get a windfall of $$$ from my Poker skills

Don't tell her I said that!!
More seriously though. I'm not in a financial position to do anything at the moment. If my return on investment pans out as I hope it will, then I may be abel to purchase something nice in the late Spring or early summer.

PS-Mike...thanks for the heads up. $5K, isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but still too much money to have tied up with nothing to show for almost a year!

Nahhh...for me, the idea was to find a bride with a source of income.
My wife married me for my money, too - all $12.52 of it.
