Is this a hoax? http://members.shaw.ca/advancetiming/id34.htm I beleive the company is in Calgary. Found it on ebay. Looked through their site. They have a module for the Protege I was wondering if anyone knew what this is, how it works, and if the company is reputable..

 

"Advanced Timing" doesn't appear in our phone books (white or yellow pages). I would be very skeptical about this mod and this company. I've seen this "module" discussed in other car forum and the general feeling was that it is basically a sort of resister that changes the signal going to the ECU making it think that it needs to feed more fuel. In principal, the idea sounds good, but the execution is poor and results not reliable.
Just looking at the other crap they sell makes me think that this might just be an internet branch of an existing business that sells "novelty" items to car people. Nobody really takes a Cobra radar detector seriously. And did you take a look at their audio stuff? Yikes! I believe they are not even the makers of this mod. They simply are distributors for it so they would just "regurgitate" whatever the makers tell them to say.
Their whole web site looks very amateurish - not even an address to track them down.
My initial reaction:
"DANGER! WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!"

Shel, you've probably given your car more HP by just having installed a CAI.
