Default Ran up a curb

I somewhat did it on purpose though.

I was driving my gf home. A right turn into a crescent. I was going a bit faster than usual and the road was covered in snow. I thought this would be a good chance to learn how to recover from a slide or whatever. Slam on my brake a little bit and at the same time I crank the wheel to the right. I started to slide forward without going right. Release the brake pedal. wtf did I do next? Started to panick and slam on the brakes again!, already forgetting that I did this on purpose in the first place Still going forward. Ran up a curb (2" off the ground and curb's at an angle), and into a small bush. Gf started bitching at me for driving like a freak in a residential neighborhood. Everything on car seems fine (alignment too). Just a couple of twigs stuck in the grill part of the front bumper.

I guess what I should have done is stay away from the brakes and gas it instead of slamming on the brakes Then again, I guess I've proved that in a panicky situation like that, most people would actually slam on their brakes and lock them up instead of releasing the brake pedal

This had to have been in your beater, right? Had it been with the S, your ABS would have cut in and you would have most likely made it around the corner (if you had snow tires). Braking and cornering at the limit of traction is never a good idea. Did you at least straighten out your wheel just at the moment of mounting the curb?

Come take the ice racing school. Early January! I'll be there, it's a lot of fun and very helpful to know what your car will do at its cold weather limits!

s2ooo: still driving heh?

xviper: of course it's the beater Civic....S is already hibernating Yeah straighten out the wheel.

itr_gary: where's this and how much??? you just use your own car?

funny thing today,

Almost ran up the same curb and into the same bush. This time I didn't do it on purpose and I was going slower than the day before. I was braking while turning and that section of the intersection is just slick like heck. GF started bitching at me again WHILE my car was out of control. This time, I thought for a split second in my head and gas the car and started to wrestle with the steering wheel. Car kinda jerked but I recovered! I was kinda heading straight for a parked truck though. Close encounter. Damn, guess I'll take it more easy on any turns. And always brake before a turn (just like driving an S)

You should take it to an empty parking lot if you want to learn how to drift. FWD is harder to put into a drift, but I guess you managed that part. Depends on the drift but getting on the brakes while in a drift is going to make it worse. You need to resist the tendancy, counter-steer right away and power out, even in a FWD.

Good thing you weren't in the S, although we all knew that.

Oh, your gf sounds boring

Go with the Blizzaks WS-50s. They are really soft and should keep you off the curb.

Should have just stuck snows on the S and drive it
