Default rules?

Dave, I understand why you closed the other thread on the election (rules) but it seems odd that so many other boards/forums on this site have marginally respectful topics/discussions..eg from the off-topic forum....

"Women are like a pile of dirt. You carefully shovel and spread that pile of dirt out all nice and neat, but you still have dirt"

"Women are like tile........If you lay them right, you can walk all over them for the rest of you life."

...of course there are many more....let's lighten up a bit. If all rules were applied without some discretion we would all be getting tickets for driving 101km/hr on Deerfoot.

I understand what you're saying. I've pushed the envelope on the rules myself from time to time.
I closed it only to eliminate any possibility of the thread getting to the point of mud slinging and that's the whole reason why that rule is there. (And it's a long standing one from the beginning, I might add.)
If I could be sure that it stayed within our little group of "familiar" friends, no problem, but it's easy for a topic like this to go national or international. Then there would the "I told you so" from those higher up. I wanted to avoid that.

yes, I agree...you never know when an outsider may come in a try to stir the pot (like last week!). Although it is nice to have an inteliigent discussion once in a while.

BTW, here are the regulations that I found posted...I don't see anything about "politics" etc in here....so I am still a little confused as to where these "rules" are.....if you or Shelley can point me in the proper direction I would appreciate it (even though I won't agree with them...perhaps).

"This is a community of Honda S2000 enthusiasts. We encourage participation and the goal of the community is to enhance the ownership of your Honda S2000. Respect your fellow enthusiasts in the same manner you wish to be respected. It is good practice when you write to use emotion icons if you think someone might take something you say offensively.

RESPECT IS THE KEY

The S2000 Community is a place where it's okay to be yourself -- be that harried, jovial, silly or sad -- as long as you always act with respect towards your fellow enthusiasts.
WELCOME NEWCOMERS

When newcomers arrive, welcome them to our growing community. Many of our community's "elders" (regardless of age) are a wealth of knowledge and have much to share. Help new members learn about how to find information and resources, save time, and how to get involved in the community.
DON'T ATTACK EACH OTHER

Don't attack others. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully ... without insult and/or personal attack.

KEEP YOUR POSTS CLEAN

There may be places where explicit, obscene or vulgar language, graphics or behaviour is appropriate however S2000 International is not one of them. Discussion forum posts that contain explicit, obscene or vulgar language will be removed. Similarly, discussion forum posts that solicit or offer explicit or X-rated images or similar content files will be deleted without notice! "

Good one Harvey. I'll let Shelley address this if she so chooses. I've always just been told from the beginning of my time here that politics was a no-no. Now that I've had a look myself, I can't find it either.

okay... here is some reading for you!

I guess it is up to the CO to entertain the politics threads that arise. However, I am more in favour of a site wide "no politics rule"

Based on what Shelley has said and what Cthree wrote, I would like to re-open that thread. If Shelley objects, she can close it at her discretion. I shall be watching it closely and at the first sign of "unpleasant" posting, I'll close it.
