Default Soft Top Replacement in Edmonton

Hey guys,

This May my top was slashed open, so I'm in the process of going throughout claim and getting my top replaced.

As it stands, insurance is unwilling to replace the top with an OEM part, and are in turn is trying to assess me a $500 betterment fee to replace the soft top at the seat centre. I'm trying to fight for the removal of the betterment charge, but I'm not sure if I'm going to have any luck.

With that said, I'm trying to figure out how I want to go about having the top replaced. I've talked to the Seat Centre who want around $1100 to replace the top if I supply the parts.

With that said, does anyone know of anyone else who does top replacements? I've taken a look through the DIY guides and I'm tempted to give the job a shot on my own. I know Sabotuer are placed his top, but has anyone else tried it? Would anyone be willing to lend a hand with the job? I'm quite confident in the interior disassembly and reassembly, but I'm a bit nervous about the rivet component and strap component of the job.

Let me know!

Tough pill to swallow.

The labour is obviously covered completely by them so they're arguing that roughly 40% of the cost of the top is your responsibility (they're probably paying $700+ on top of the $500 from you). So, you could ask them for a CASH settlement for the top replacement, then go buy a Robbins top for $700 and it won't cost you anything out of pocket. Just be sure to get a firm quote on installing the top so that you don't get hosed by the installer!

Do you know how much of the cost of the top they are covering? If not, find out as that could give you an idea of how much money you potentially have to go find a top yourself.

I found a used top on Kijiji - you could install those pretty easily for very little money (direct bolt-in since the riveting is done) and even make something on the deal. Plenty on here as well, if they'll ship...

If you buy a top complete with frame and motors, it's supposedly a helluva lot easier than removing and replacing the top only. That's where the drilling, riveting and nylon straps get involved. I was quite intimidated by it too, but once you get stuck into it, and with the help of the various DIYs, the drilling and riveting is quite obvious and straightforward.
