Stereo help
I agree about a stereo not being too useful in the S. I am tempted to use the stereo and dash control real-estate for other things entirely (permanently mounted ScanGauge and/or a G-Tech accelerometer).

My opinion after doing a fairly heavy upgrade is to not waste too much time and money on the S2000. This car has literally NO sound deadening material installed from the factory. The engine and road noise drowns out even heavily amp'd systems at anything over 30kph. Most of the extra volume you add just goes right out of the vehicle, and road noise comes right in. Sure, it may sound louder with more power, but it still sounds like shit with the LOUD road and engine noise mixed in.
The S2000 is just a lousy car to install a stereo in. It suffers from the "tin can" effect. This never became more evident to me till I recently bought a 4500 lb truck. That truck sounds like a vault when I get inside. It's NOTHING like the S2000. And now I'm beginning to understand that most other cars I drive in are NOTHING like the S2000 either.
If you really want to get more volume, also consider insulating the floor, firewall, and doors. Keep the sound you have in, and the sound you don't want out.

what if i replaced my side pannels with AP2 side pannels? im sure they are a little bit louder because of the 2 extra speakers that are at a higher location. I think my main problem is that im to dam big and my leg keeps covering up the speaker when im driving. also thanks mikey for the link will read up about it tonight.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with your statements here though. I can hear my music plain as day at 150km/h with the top up or down. Enough $$ will solve almost any problem.
Sound deadening definitely helps too!
I would do a cheap upgrade in the s2k. As mentioned, it's not a good base for a high end system, but the factory system is still terrible, so I'd get the cheapest aftermarket system possible:
-entry level Pioneer Premier deck w/ ipod cable
-Cadence surplus components
-possibly an amp, some refurb PG Xenon would be nice
then call it a day. Save the money for a quality system in a quiet car.

I'll be doin it soon!! And hitting you guys up for advice and maybe install assistance as well. Heated condo garage with plenty of space to work, power outlets and tons of lighting. Should be a good place for a project!
I happen to agree with the idea of not spending dopeloads of money on a system though, In my earlier years I crafted together many high quality, high output systems for under 1K that rivaled friends systems at $3-4K. Sometimes it worked out well buying friends' old amps, subs, and decks for a fraction of the price and just building new boxes and having what looked like a brand new setup.
I'll probably cheap out somewhat on my first install in this car, then use that experience with the layout to properly replace each component one at a time and adjust and tune over time.
