Default Testpipe in AB

So I've read everything I can on the Internet, and from all I can tell, there's no law against testpipes in Alberta. Seems like the only thing they do is check junked vehicles to see which have had their cats removed or not, and that's how they compile their statistics. Numbers I read are something like 25% of the cars out here don't have cats, or have been "tampered" with.

I probably won't break it just for a TP, but I don't want to get harrassed about wanting one. My 1998 Thundercat 1000 has dirtier exhaust from the factory than our cars with a TP and nobody (including police) has ever said a thing about it. Besides, our cars ALMOST pass emissions in Ontario WITHOUT a cat! Not bad I think

What is the law?

good question in regards to the legality of this but I've had mine with a Spoon exhaust for a long time now and I never ran into any issues in regards to the test pipe or the exhaust with the police.

So I called the police and he didn't know, he asked someone else and they didn't know, apparently it's not required by law, unless the removal results in visual smoke or a largely audible sound difference, in which case you'll get a ticket for pollution or improper muffler.

WOOOHOOOO!!!

He specifically said they do not do roadside inspections for catalytic converters because they are unaware of the original equipment on the vehicle and are not able to give tickets for it.

Heh. Pollution? It's just a myth. Welcome to Alberta.

HAHA....

If they don't want pollution, or getting tight on emission laws...first they have to get rid of musle cars, old trucks like 80's and early 90's, or any mid 80's cars....

i have one
no problems
crossing fingers!!!
i dont think most cops would look for a testpipe...
i think most problems from cops would be from the exhaust first

I had one, never had any problems. It stinks a little bit, though.

I'm willing to bet an S2000 with a test pipe is still easier on the environment than most vehicles out there.

Yeah a guy west of Toronto took his car in for emissions testing and was just the tiniest little bit off in only 1 category of about 5 with the test pipe. The tree-huggers who flip out over testpipes drive me nuts!

I like the environment as much as the next motor-loving individual, come on.
