Help me with Clear Bra
I wasn't aware that anyone other than 3M makes this film. 3M has been the source of pretty much all the major paint protective film products out there - X-Pel, Stongard, Clear Bra, InvisiBra, etc. The only difference is the total coverage provided by each product and the exact shape of each kit. If there is a different and newer product, I don't think I'd be willing to be one of the first bunch of people to put it on my car when 3M has been around so long and has a proven track record.
Well I did find the other product...it's called ClearBra. They are at http://www.clearbra.net. It seems like a good product, it's just so difficult to have it done. Both dealers are over 100 miles away. And to think, I'm in the big city....
I had a place up here in louisville called ClearBraUSA or something like that, do my S and the roof of my A4 (ski rack). I thought it was with the stuff was made by 3M but I'm not sure.
3M makes Scotchcal brand polyurethane paint protection film, Avery Dennison makes a polyurethane film they call Stone Shield. The biggest difference is the 3M material has a clear coat top layer and is marginaly more expensive than the Avery material. Installers tend to prefer the Avery material since it is less rigid than the 3M and easier to install. 3M looks better on Black cars, Avery should always be used on white cars since it resists yellowing better. ClearBra uses vinyl film. Vinyl material costs pennies on the dollar compared to polyurethane film and should be avoided at all costs. Vinyl plasticisers evaporate very quickly, if youve ever opened up a new beach ball or shower curtain you can smell the strong odor of vinyl, anything you can smell is evaporating and shrinking, just like rear windows on convertable, when vinyl evasporates and shrinks it hardens and yellows. Ive seen vinyl installs shrink over 1/2" in just a year! Hope that answers your questions, research it for yourself and make the right choice for what you need. If anyone has any other questions about paint protection film, feel free to drop me a line!
