Default Color around windshield frame

I have a 05 s2k and around the windshield it is black. Now the 06+ s2k have that portion the same color as the car. Is that something that I can be replace with one that is the same color as my car, or does it have to be painted?

Windshield tape. You need to remove it.

Actually, I think it's only the 2008 and 2009 model years that came without windshield tape, i.e. in the U.S. All model years outside the U.S. came without it, too... IIRC. But yeah, if you want your windshield frame to be the same color as the rest of your car, just peel the tape off, carefully. It's pretty time consuming from what I hear.

Is there a purpose for it to be a different color?

It's mainly just personal preference. Some people like it black, but others like it body-colored.

There is some risk to removing the tape. Some people have found that the finish under the tape is bad and had to paint or re-apply the tape.

I took my tape off a year ago. Making it 9 years old. It has sat in Florida under direct sun for that time. And the paint matched perfectly. Yes is was a total PITA!!! But the end product is totally worth it. Especially if you have a hardtop.
