A respray costs more than just finding a car in the color you want. Especially if you don't want a yellow engine bay or door jambs or trunk, etc.

For the price go with Maaco or simular. This is cheap enough and will allow you time to rethink and shop around for something better.

Best advice is to choose a different car.

If you insist on buying one that is screwed up in a color you hate and flushing good money on it to change the color, your best bet is probably a vinyl wrap. That way you get a new color and don't have to worry about screwed up stock paint when you resell the car.

I know there is a paint/body subforum but lets be honest it is dead. thanks for any help guys.
There are quite a few new threads there and I hit s2ki on a daily basis. Not posting in a forum won't help if it's "dead".

a decent job is gonna cost $2k+ just for the visible exterior. still need to worry about engine bay, door jambs, etc.

find a car in a color you like or do a vinyl wrap.

definitely a viable option.

but im with the consensus on this one - wait it out and get the car you want.

im looking at a spa yellow 01 for really cheap, no hate to spa owners but i cant stand yellow cars. Im thinking that since the car has had some issues (new motor, tranny, sus, 152,000 miles on body and that i would be getting a steal barring something major is wrong with it, that i would be better off just buying it and repainting it. im not looking for a show quality paint job or even an oem one, just something that looks decent and will hold up. I was thinking something along the lines of world rally blue or tangelo orange (not the real colors but something similar). Does anyone know if it would be possible to get a decent job for under 1K? ive heard maaco will do it for 250 but that they majorly suck and use only the lowest quality stuff. I know there is a paint/body subforum but lets be honest it is dead. thanks for any help guys.
Well, look at the positives that Maaco provides. For no extra charge, they'll paint your exhaust tips, weather stripping, and other places you were not expecting!

Maacos products are pure crap. If you want to pay another 1500 to have the crap stripped off the car when you deiced it wont do. Go ahead. Get another car with less miles in a different color or pay the extra money and paint the car right.
