Default To fix or replace front bumper

Hello everyone,

I wanted to see what you guys of my front bumper. It is in fair to bad shape and has been in an accident. I wanted to see if it would be more cost effective for a body shop to fix and paint it or just replace the front bumper with something else. Some pics for reference.

I had a similar decision with my S. I had a minor strike with an object on the road that I could not avoid. The strike cracked the plastic front bumper cover near the bottom. The crack was similar in severity to your damage but in a different location. I made the decision to have my local high quality body shop replace the bumper with an oem part. It turned out great. But, I know will have to take a bit of a downward price adjustment if I sell. My feeling is that once the impact occurred I will need to disclose it to any buyer, so I might as well make the best possible repair, and my conclusion is that the best repair includes a new bumper cover. So, that is how I see it. What i am not really sure about, is whether that damage can be successfully repaired. Others?

Tough call. I think it depends on what the overall value of the car is to you and if you will ever sell it. Any other car with that damage I would replace and repaint the bumper. (High value car I would pay to have it done)

I am not sure how well a shop can repair and repaint that and keep the VIN intact. You might want to take pictures so you can show the eventual buyer it was not a major collision that cause the replacement.

Yea it was a long shot. Im trying not to spend much money on this car as it is still fairly depreciated in value. Well I guess I might as well get a aftermarket bumper in the process of getting the car to be in better shape.

Looks like the VIN is absent? If not, get a replacement and hold on to the old number.

As stated there is no VIN, no change in what you have if you replace it. Also, would be willing to bet that the cost of plastic welding and finishing would be more than a new RDOT bumper and for sure a descent used bumper. The paintwork is where the money is spent though, if you can find a good used version in your colour then jump on it. Good luck.

It depends on what you mean by "replace it with something else." Do you mean an aftermarket bumper or an OEM replacement? If OEM replacement then yeah buy the new bumper and have it paint matched. If aftermarket it all depends on what bumper you buy and how the fitment ends up being as you could spend a lot having a body shop make a poorly fitting bumper fit.

Dealing with the same issue with INS right now. They didn't want to acknowledge the internal damage, which is visible to the eye so I'm going to take it to get an inspection at a repair facility may be required to resolve any differences.
