The gist of a DIY fix (perhaps the one you are referring to) for this is:

Patch tonneau wear point(s) with pieces of black gaffa tape, then sleeve the “elbow” of the frame that seems to cause the problems by adding velcro hooks down the edge of a piece of black bass box cloth (12 cm x 14 cm) and wrapping it around the elbow

I'd recommend griding down the rough weld on the right rear frame "elbow".

Do not stab the top with a knife.

Also, as the top break in, allow it to go down slowly, stopping to manually fold it in place.

Deburr the frame.

When grinding the weld, Is it easiest top down? Is it only on the right rear?

I have a little wear in the tonneau on the right side and significantly less on the left side.

As my top is up for the next few months I have not yet adjusted the weld. You may need to do some digging online to find out about that particular aspect of the "fix". The gaffa tape, box cloth, velcro DIY should forestall any wear on the top for quite some time, though.

Are you talking about wear?

I remember seeing in a DIY thread where they cut two squares of material off the old top and put them between the plastic guard and the new top with adhesive.

Here are a couple useful threads of mine I started a while back.. The first one has a lot of links regarding top tears and solutions. The second one is more specific to a tear that started developing for me above the driver's head.

I applied patches to the two wear points I had, and bought lizard chain stays for each side as shown in the threads.
