Default Sewing holes on softtop

Has anyone sewed the softtop to close up a small rip on your soft top before?

I also have a square patch that I am thinking of sewing to close the rip.

Any suggestions?

Sewing is easy. You should instead be addressing why a hole is forming. In my case, it was a burr on the metal hoop that was rubbing up against the top. I sanded that down, no more abrasion.

I've also wondered about just sewing it up. I've got a small hole that's been patched but the adhesive seems to be giving up. Would it make sense to use a new patch + adhesive and then sew it as well or would I be fine just sewing the patch that's peeling back on?

No thread jack intended, just curious.

I contemplated sewing mine after my whole kept getting bigger and bigger, even with my previous patch method. I finally deburred the frame (it was only ripping on the passenger side) and used the black ice patch. Works beautifully and is showing no signs of wear!

Also, when you sew it, try to sew in the direction of the vinyl grain as it will hide itself better.

If you sew against the grain, it is much more noticeable.

So, sew it along the grooves the the grain (not too much), when use whatever your favorite patch method is the cover up the underside.

^tried that. That thing is a pain to use and if you don't have a lot of patience, you will more than likely will make it worse.

I tried stitching mine and it just made it worse because now you have a dozen of tiny holes that will stretch and become big holes later on.

Just glue a patch and take it for what it is, a temporary fix, until you get a new top.

I had small tears starting in my top and I sewed mine then put a patch on the inside.
The patches and adhesive is still holding strong and tears havent gotten any worse.
I did a DIY write up on it but its mostly common sense...
