The biggest cost associated with a paint job is labour, if you're paying over $2000 for paint you're probably paying 80-90% of the cost towards labour, so this is going to vary a lot. Blending and reclearing panels, thats kinda crazy seeing as a good shop could prep a panel and paint it faster than they could do that. $80/hour might be standard at one shop, but keep in mind some shops are going to quote 8-10 hours for prep and actually do it in 2-3 and charge you for the full 8-10. More honest shops will charge for actual time spent and you will get much better value.

My dad had 30-40 hours of body work done on his 56' Dodge as well as a full 2 stage paint including a candy apple red and clear done for $3000. He had a hook up with a good guy who owned a booth but you have to look for a deal when you're getting paint done. The same guy that is charging 4K + for paint will likely come down a lot if you hound him a bit. As far as removing lights and trim, you can save a crap load doing this yourself. As owners we know the right and quick way to do this, so by removing and reinstalling your own headlights, tail lights and trim you can probably save $1000+ at these high end shops. So just knock 1K$ off any of these high quotes if you do this yourself.
