How much paint should I buy?
Can anyone tell me how much paint it would take for 2-3 coats of paint and clearcoat on an s2k body? I know I can buy it by the Gallon and there are kits that are pre mixed that will yield a gallon and a half. What I want to know is if this is enough or should I go ahead and get a couple kits.

Yeah, I really like the Matte/Satin finish so I'd like to paint the whole car. I've never done it before, but I bought the car with the intention of learning how to customize. Since it's a Berlina and matte black is the color of choice I thought it might not need painting in the engine bay and door/trunk jambs; to save some cash - maybe. It would be nice to go with a 3k to 5k professional job, but I don't have that kind of scratch. The Paint I am looking at is sold by the gallon so I just didn't know how many gallons to buy.

Yup, just had mine repainted last week. 2 quarts of paint are way plenty, if you're keeping stock color. Or close to stock, like white to silver, yellow to red, etc.
You dilute paint:reducer 1:1.5, so 2 quarts will turn into a gallon and a half. Well, not all paint, depends on manuf.
I bought a gal of clear, it's the best way to buy it, don't mess with 1, 2, or 3 quarts. You'll probably end up using up about 3 quarts out of that gallon, for 3 layers, unless your painter is not a pro.
TIP: keep the friggin' masking paper and tape on the car after paint! You'll probably need to cut down the orange peel/ compound/ polish/ then wax the car, and masking paper will help keep the top clean. Guess how I know.

this is some really great information...i plan on re-painting my car as well but i will be going from NFR to something like Battleship Grey or in between that and Moonrock...i like the look of Battleship Grey but honestly its a bit too light for my taste...so with what i have read it looks like i would only need say 1 gallon at the most to do this...and just in case maybe get another gallon for GP and just 1 gallon of clear coat...am i correct? my friend's dad is going to do my paint...he owned a body shop for 13 years and does a great job and said that all i need to do is buy the paint and clear coat for him and thats it...so the 2 gallons of base and 1 gallon of clear should be good i hope
