trying to get some damaged fixed on the rear door of my msp. every shop i go to says that the paint needs to be blended through the front door so that it will look right. im trying to figure out why this is the case. i see people on here all the time get new bumpers etc installed and they just have them painted, put them on and they look great.

the guy at the last shop i went to said something about it being because paint fades overtime, especially when cars are not stored in a garage. could i just do a paint correction with a polisher and avoid having to pay for them to repaint both doors to blend the paint or is this unavoidable?

 

age and sun cause fading, blending minimizes the appearance of a panel being painted.

 

If you're thinking that you can assess paint matching via photos you're mistaken. Plenty of paint jobs that look good in photos don't look good in person. The professional body shops know what they're talking about. It's your call if you want to take their advice or think you know better.

It's all about the lighting! Lol maybe angle but I always get my stuff painted an just slap it on and yes it my look slightly off but that's preference !


Can you really tell in person? Eh kind of but not like putting a Sebring bumper on a silver stone haha btw my car is ap1 so that ap2 front was actually sprayed body color by just giving the painter the paint code and dropping off the bumper and so was the js front!

 

The bumper will look fine as long as its a close shade. A rear quarter to the door is a flat surface and will show the paint difference more.

Get it blended. Its worth the extra money.

Look at jonmizu's s2000. The difference will be slight like the picture shows between the passenger fender and door. Ask yourself if that bothers you enough, then you'll have your answer.

 

the only thing different about my amuse front rep are the flakes, the color match is perfect. and my mugen rep hardtop is perfect too
