why not vinyl wrap the whole car?

 

Make the girl pay for it. If she has insurance or not.

 

All you need to do is a get a high estimate. The body shop wants to make money and get paid. I haven't met a body shop yet that wouldn't make a high estimate. I'd be surprised if you had to come out of pocket much at all.

Get some quotes from top notch body shops and submit them to her insurance. Insurance will usually average out the 3 and cut you a check. You do not need to go through their preferred paint shop. With said check, go and get the work done at the shop of your choice. I would HIGHLY recommend ONLY going to a shop via referral, otherwise you could end up with a huge headache.
Also, unless you plan to do it right, I'm against color change.

 

I know it has been a long time since the post was written but I hope that this may help someone in the future. I am a claims adjuster and fellow S2K owner.

The best option in this scenario is going for a blend on the panels adjacent to the one being worked on. Noramlly if they just paint one panel, they will put a fresh layer of paint and clear coat on the panel being worked on, so the other panels next to that one will look like a different color/shade. What the shop will do is blend the panels adjacent to that one very slowly from the new color of the fresh paint, to the older worn out color of the old paint. If you have a good shop this slow transition will trick the eye to perceive it as one solid color. Especially on the s2k and how there are only 3 body panels on the side of the car, they will end up painting the whole side that is being worked on. Not including R&I operations and such.

Be weary. Adjusters are not dumb. We will not repaint your whole car another color because you want it. Insurance is taught to indemnify and to put your car back to how it was before the accident. If you work in order to financially gain from an accident this is called FRAUD and IS A CRIME.

 

Its funny that this is brought back up because the car is going into paint in 3 weeks and getting completely resprayed. Ended up getting rear ended not to long after that. Since it took the other person to pay up so long it now needs a new rear everything and door. So for not much out of my pocket she gets a new color since over half of it needs to be painted anyways And nothing sketchy or illegal has to happen hahhaha
