Default Painting Stainless Steel

Hello,

I just bought a stainless steel (new) cooling plate/radiator shroud. I want to paint it candy red. I can paint an entire car or rims or plastic bumpers but I have never tried to paint stainless steel. Is it easily done? Are there any special steps I have to do? I plan to use a primer, base coat/clear coat system.

Thanks

It will pretty much be the same as painting anything else. To get the best results some people use body filler on the whole part then sand it smooth, then paint. Also what kind of Candy paint are you going to use? Candy paint is transparent, and you have to spray a certain color base coat before the candy color to get the effect. Most use a silver or gold base, then candy, then clear.

I was planning on going with a semi-dark silver. Guess this would be a tri-coat process. Ive never heard of the body filler technique. I will have to give that some thought.

A good metal primer and then paint should do the trick.
I would personally have it powder coated however. Much more durable.
