Default Silverstone metallic hard to match...

Anyone else notice that Silverstone Metallic is heck of hard to match with the original OEM factory paint when applying on an after market part? I say this because I've had a few bumper jobs done before & seen quite a few other jobs on other SSM where the custom paint job didnt exactly match the oen factory paint, being a bit darker if you look at it carefully. I'm thinking the only way it really goes unnoticable is if the painter is skilled enough to blend it in with the body...

Yes. I'm told that the metallic flake in Silverstone is really difficult to duplicate.

^ I agree. I had to take my car back to the body shop about 4 times to get the paint/blend right.

i had ap2 bumpers installed on my s and all the paint match very well cant even tell the difference. The guy who painted them said there is olny one way to mix silverstone which is why it matched so good no blend at all. when you paint, use a higher grade paint. The paint you use makes a big difference on how well they match, but with most colors there is more than one way to mix the paint which is the big cause for not color matching. some colors have 4 different ways to mix and each way is gonna be a lighter or darker shade then the others.

Yep, also when painting with metallics, your suppost to have the part sitting exactly how it will be on the car. So fenders would be hung up, the hood should be laid flat, ect. I found out that if you paint them in a different position than how they are on the car, they might not all match eachother perfectly when all on the car. Suzuka is also a pretty hard color to match perfectly.

Thanks for this post. I have a Silverstone rear bumper that is a shade darker than the quarter panels. Bodyshop painted the quarter panels and rear bumper at the same time w/ the same paint. They're next plan of action is to do exactly what you said. Lets see how it goes.

suzuka-blue-s2k is right the metallics will lay down differently. if you spray it wetter or maybe alittle dry they wont lay down the same.
