Default So my rear plastic window cracked....

I was putting the top down for a run to the store at 8:30pm, it was ~48 degrees and I hear a weird crinkle, pop noise. I look back an I see an 18 inch crack right above the bottom, right above the fabric. Is this a common defect with plastic windows? Man, I was angry.

i think a plastic cracked after 10 years of use would be acceptable. get a new soft top with glass : )

Yes thats very common with those plastic windows. They are also way more likely to crack when its cold out.

Looks like its time for either a hardtop, or an 02+ glass soft top.

Mine cracked just the other day. I was told that a fews day without a wash(sand etching into plastic?) plus the temp being 50 or below will crack it fast!

Putting top down in sub 50 degree temps will crack an old plastic window most of the time it seems..

I cracked my plastic too, never put it down when it's cold. You can just touch the rear window to see if it's stiff, if it is, don't risk it.

Good to know, I will make sure my interior is nice and warm before I put my window down anytime soon.

Potentially dumb question, has anyone ever glued a piece of polycarbonate in place of the soft rear window before? I was looking at my soft top tonight thinking if you had the right adhesive you could probably just glue something in.
