Car will not be tracked, possibly autocrossed though. I brake very late, and very hard along with left foot brake so I need something thats going to bite and be aggresive yet not be too loud or create too much dust. Anyone have any recommendations?!

 

hawk hps is my suggestion

 

In my 1-time experience, Hawk HPS were significantly WORSE than stock on the street (noticeably softer pedal and less bite), and INFINITELY worse than stock (pretty much totally useless) at the track.

Hawk HP+ offer a LOT more coefficient of friction and braking responsiveness than stock, and work great even in cold weather. They do dust a bit, and may make some noise (in my experience they quiet down after a track event).

Carbotech XP8s are another option, again dust and noise may be an issue (again, mine quieted down after a track event with them).

Otherwise, I'd just go OEM AP1.

 

ive never had a problem with hawk hps, even after a full year of auto-x and 2 track days. plus i dd my car. Only issue is that they sometimes need to be warmed up a bit for maximum effectiveness.

 

stock not enough? it should be even with an 'aggresive' driving style..

i have AX6 on my car and they stop like a sumbitch. but they squeal like a sumbitch too.

my buddy has bobcats on his wrx and they still stop well, but with near no squeal. slight squeaks, but no squeal.

 

The HPS pads I got felt "off" immediately when I put them on the car. Even on the street, the pedal felt softer vs. OEM pads, and the coefficient of friction was noticeably less than stock. I put them on the car, drove from Providence RI to Mont Tremblant in Canada (~8-9 hour drive). I ran three horrendous ~10-15 minute sessions with them on track, during which they gave up any semblance of braking after about one lap, after which the pedal got soft/long, and I had to rely HEAVILY on early downshifting and engine compression braking! Between sessions I bled the brakes, no change in performance. After three abbreviated runs with *very* sketchy (dangerous, even) braking performance, they were totally vaporized, practically metal/metal. I threw the OEM AP1 pads back in and immediately got usable braking back! OEM pads are not good track pads, but they were INFINITELY better than the HPS pads I had!

I have to wonder if I might have gotten a bad batch or something...

Anyway, regarding the need to warm them up, the ones I had offered only iffy performance stone cold, and any temperature into them quickly degraded braking performance!

FWIW, the HP+ pads I have on the car now don't require any warmup at all, even with temps in the 20s here in RI.

 

unless you're tracking the car, go with oem ap1 pads and a better brake fluid like ATE.
