Default Which Coils To Upgrade Too

Hey guys,

Long story short, I had paid for the HKS SP from Evasive, went in got the install done, came home, looked under the car, and saw that they installed the GT's. Emailed them, did not want to go back and deal with another install (regret that I did this), so got the difference in price returned to me. Now I'm stuck with the GT's, they are way too soft for my liking, even with -3.6 degrees of cambering and rolled fenders I'm rubbing.

Sorry for the rant, but now I am looking to upgrade the coils. The back story on the car, 04, running 255 square (RT660), front RCA, all the fluids/pads, the car is mostly a daily/spirited/canyon car, plans on tracking a few times a year (for the next 2 years), after I'm done with school it'll be a weekend/track car.

So what I'm looking for is an upgrade that'll work well on track, meaning I won't have to upgrade again in the near future, so I would prefer to buy once and overtime reach the limit they offer. No aero on the car now but maybe later down the road after seat time. I do not mind sacrificing DD comfort. I have read around the forums, but there is some lacking info here and there, so sorry for the rookie questions, I'm new to how coils work. I'm looking to preferably keep it under $2500, here are my options so far:

1. HKS SP (I'm thinking the 16/16 maybe a bit too much w/o aero)
2. Feal 441+ Rockstar spec (either 12/10 or 14/12) (not many reviews on these)
3. Fortune Auto 510's W/ Swift spring upgrade (either 12/10 or 14/12)
4. Ohlins DFV W/ 12/10 Swift springs

If you guys could give advice on which one/why or any previous experiences with them, thank you all in advance!

If that were me, I'd have gone back and made them install the correct coils. However, I think the SP spring rates are far too high especially with no aero so perhaps you lucked out anyway. Btw, what are your wheel specs? I can't imagine you're still rubbing with -3.6 camber and rolled fenders unless your car is sitting too low or your wheels have very aggressive offsets.

Anyway, I haven't had any experience with any of the coils you listed but I've heard the Ohlins or FA's are very popular especially for novice tracking and without sacrificing too much DD comfort.

Fortune Auto makes the most sense.

Easily customizable, great quality, takes a wide range of springs.

I am using FA500 on 14/12. In California, these would probably be brilliant. Y'all got them nice fancy roads.

Yes, it was a big mistake not going back, I had been there for 8 hours that day, lobby closed, just didn't want to deal with it again.
Im running rpf1 17x9+45, the issue is that the car sits a bit lower than 1 finger gap (after rca install), and the GT's have a 8/7 spring rate, so not stiff at all.

I was thinking so, because you can always send them back and upgrade them, just wanted some first hand experience before going that route.

Less than one finger gap (very scientific ) is very low; you may still rub with stiffer springs. Raise the car up and run less camber. I'm pretty sure the HKS are stiffer than CR shocks with Swift Sport springs and I know a few guys with the CR shocks/swift spring combo running similar a similar wheel/tire combo with no rubbing issues .

After driving 500s , 510s and Feal 441+ all back to back the 510s were by far the best. I did set the same time using the 441+ but it wasn't consistent like the Fortunes. The 510s seemed to be on par with Ohlins on the street while not upsetting the car over bumps and curbs.

I think a 14k/12k set of 510s would be the way to go, I DMed you about a good deal from my buddy Will at AMS.

If you are really looking for the best track coilover though the KW Clubsports or Karcepts Coilovers are honestly in a different league while still being usable on the street but they are in a different budget.

A good entry level track / autocross only coilover is the Redshift BCs. I would pick them over the HKS or Fortunes if you are doing more than 40% track/autocross driving with the car. They are not very street friendly but damn are they good.

Yeah sorry haha, I wasn't home to go measure, just wanted a rough estimation out there.

Appreciate the DM, just took a look at it. I do want to keep the budget under 2500, so the karcepts would be out the window. Thank you for the info! Seems like FA definitely isn't a bad route to go.

FA510 definitely has the most flexibility in terms of setup potential.

They claim that they can swing a (+/-) 8KG/mm spring on the same valving.

14/12 is a setup that I tried because I thought, "yeah this should work, no?"

And ...yeah it works really well on the track. It's for sure a little choppy on the road (FA500 dampers). But...I live in the midwest. In California, it should be like silk.
